The San Bernardino County Fire Department provides fire protection services on a contract basis to the City of Needles Fire Department). The Needles Fire Department (City of Needles) owns the fire station and the five pieces of fire fighting equipment at its disposal. The Fire Company is comprised of dedicated personnel who are on 24/7 immediate call to duty.

Police Protection
Police protection is provided by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. It is known as the Needles Police Department. It is open 24/7. There is also a California Highway Patrol station in Needles.

Utilities
The City of Needles is one of those rare, smaller municipalities that provides a majority of the utilities required by its' citizens.

The Needles Public Utility Authority is responsible for providing electricity, water, sewage, and refuse removal. Southwest Gas Company provides natural gas, while Frontier Communications delivers telephone and cable services.

Municipal Cemetery
The Needles Cemetery is owned and managed by the City of Needles. It provides for the purchase of cemetery lots or interment spaces. The City carries on the maintenance of the cemetery in a manner that meets the aesthetics and legal standards for interments.

Municipal Animal Shelter
The City operates an animal shelter for stray animals. Its space is limited, therefore despite the best of intentions; shelter personnel are obliged to destroy animals if they are not adopted within a specific time frame.

People are encouraged to adopt these animals, but the fact of the matter is that the adoptions cannot keep apace with the number of animals being processed at the facility. People must act responsibly and spay and neuter their animals to decrease the exploding animal population within Needles.
